This Would Make Me Hate Pantyhose Too

I wear pantyhose a lot. I wear them everyday to work and if I am getting dressed up on weekends, there is a good chance I am wearing them. I prefer to wear skirts and dresses as opposed to pants. This is all my choice. I like the way I look when I get dresses and the pantyhose and stockings are a big piece if this look.

Because I am wearing pantyhose so often, I can count on two things happening fairly regularly.

1) A lot of unsolicited men approach me because they like the hosed-covered leg look

2) A lot of unsolicited women approach me asking "How can you wear those everyday?"

I talked about the men in a different article. This one is for the women.

Whenever I meet a female pantyhose-hater who asks me about why I wear, I always ask them what brands they wear and what size. Pretty much across the board, they are wearing some cheap, no-name brand and a size too small.

If you are buying your pantyhose at a dollar store, this is a cheap brand. You might be getting 5 pair for what I pay for I sometimes pay for one pair, some times one leg or one foot, but they are cheap and low quality.

I have also come to the conclusion women treat their pantyhose size the same way they treat their shoe size, move down one. If you need a size 8 shoe and are squeezing you foot into a size 7, if will not be a pleasant experience.

As a woman who likes the way pantyhose feel, I have often been confused why so many women hate them. I decided I would put myself into these women's pantyhose for a few days to see if I can experience what they do.

This was a three day project.

Day One - My pantyhose are too small.
Day Two - I am wearing dollar store pantyhose
Day Three - I am wearing dollar store pantyhose that are too small

Day One - My Pantyhose are too small. My most common pantyhose brand is Silk Reflections. They are durable, feel nice and do not sag on me. I typically wear sheer-to-waist. If there is some combination of feeling bloated, put on a couple of pounds, or a decision to wear a specific skirt or dress - then I will put on a pair of control tops. I also usually wear a size B. What I did today was wear a size A, but still Silk Reflections.

The material felt fine like they always do but I did have the sagging feeling throughput the day. The gusset was falling down and they felt like they were slipping down my hips a lot. I spent a lot of time trying to stretch them up. (I do not need that much room on my toes.) Regardless of how much I tried to keep them up, they still were slipping down. It was bothersome to have to readjust all day.

Day Two - I am wearing dollar store pantyhose. I went to the dollar store a few days earlier and picked up some no-name pantyhose. I bought them for a buck each. What a bargain. I did buy more than one pair, which was a good idea. Today it was the cheap brand but in a size B, which is the proper size.

I rarely get runs in my hose. I just have a sixth sense about protecting my legs I guess. On the first pair as I am pulling them up my thigh, I hear that light ripping noise. Yes, I have a run. I was not doing anything unusual and in fact, I was extra careful putting them on because I thought these would be more likely to get a run. I was right.

The hose fit OK. No immediate sags but there was one big difference. They felt as if they were the by-product of a sandpaper factory. It had been a while since I had even tried on some cheap pair of pantyhose. I am pretty well-stocked with nicer brands and like to keep it that way. Anyone who says pantyhose are itchy - I now know what they are wearing.

As the day wore on, the itch seemed to get worse. There was a huge difference between the silkiness I am used to vs. the sandpaper brand. Around 2:00 I also noticed they were beginning to sag a bit. The gusset stayed where it was supposed to all morning. Maybe my body heat was causing them to shrink as the day went on or maybe they only had one piece of elastic in the waistband. This did not give me a happy feeling for tomorrow.

Day Three - I am wearing dollar store pantyhose that are too small (aka Hell Day). Given the fact I was wearing shrinking sandpaper yesterday and today I was going to wear shrinking sandpaper that I knew started off too small, I was not looking forward to a good day. I did manage to get them on with no runs. They barely had enough stretch to get over my hips.

It did not take long for the sag to get real annoying. Every time I stood up I had to adjust and pull a bit. If I stood for very long at all, I could literally feel them falling down some. At one point in the afternoon one of the ladies asked me what's wrong. When I told her it was my pantyhose, she started giving me the "I told you so" routine. She shut up very quickly when I told her I was wearing what she normally buys and not my regular - which never start sagging like this.

The itch was getting to be pretty bad also. I had an extra pair of silk reflections in my drawer. It was very tempting to change. I choose to endure.

When I got home, I was quite happy to take off the sandpaper. I went out for a nice run, had a nice bath and rewarded myself by putting on some nice wolford brand hose that I just ordered.

The wolfords, as well as so many other brands, look great, feel great and stay on my body where they should for hours on end. Wolfords are expensive, but not all the good brands are. Just go to a department store. I suspect you will not find them in a dollar store though.

If my only choice of hosiery was the sandpaper brand that was too small, I suspect I would become a pantyhose-hater also. But that is not the case is it. There are many brands, many styles and many sizes. You do not have to suffer through a day of wearing poorly constructed pantyhose. You might even find it to be a pleasurable experience if you get some decent pairs.
